Table of technical descriptions of tyres

Table of technical descriptions of tyres
description explanation
265/70 R15 109 Q The so called European system of tyres designation.
265 The number gives the width of tyre design in mm
70 The number gives the height of tyre sculpture in %. In this case, the height of tyre sculpture amounts to 70 % of 265 mm.
R Radial. See below.
15 The number gives the diameter of rim , belonging to a tyre, in inches
109 Capacity Index. See below.
Q Speed Index. See below.
31x10.50 R15 109 Q The so called European system of tyres designation.
31 The number in inches gives the height of an inflated tyre, shod on an appropriate rim.
10.50 The number in inches, giving the width of tyre design.
Diagonal Describes such tyre casing where the cords of individual chafing strips reach into the flaps and are placed at different angles of much less than 90° in relation to the lengthwise axis of tyre tread.
Radial Describes such tyre casing where the cords of individual chafing strips stretch from one flap to the other and are placed at the angle of approx. 90° in relation to the lengthwise axis of tyre tread; the tyre carcass is stabilised by means of a reinforcing belt consisting of two or more strips made of practically inextensible cord material.
Capacity Index The number gives the maximum load a tyre is able to carry. See the Index Table.
Speed Index The alphabetical symbol determines the maximum speed for the tyre to be able to carry the load determined by the capacity index.
Tubeless This means that the tyre casing is designed for use without a tube.
M+S, MS, M/S, M&S This designates a winter tyre.
Retread This term designates a retreaded tyre.
TWI This abbreviation designates the index of maximum wear and tear of tyre casing in the design
MT, M/T This abbreviation of the words Mud, Terrain means that the tyre is designed for use in hard terrain.
AT, A/T This abbreviation of the words All Terrain means that, tyre is designed for use in medium-hard terrain.
HT, H/T This abbreviation of the words Highway, Terrain means that, tyre is designed for a ride mainly on the road.
